This residential interior design project involved the complete transformation of a compact 5' x 8' bathroom in an older home that had never been updated. The goal was to create a fresh, contemporary space that introduced subtle color while enhancing functionality and storage. With a limited footprint and aging fixtures, the bathroom was in need of a modern overhaul to better suit the lifestyle of its current homeowners.
CHALLENGE
The primary challenge was working within the constraints of the small, outdated footprint without the possibility of expanding the space. Original finishes were worn, storage was nearly nonexistent, and the layout felt cramped and inefficient. The homeowners also wanted to incorporate color, but in a way that felt timeless rather than trendy.
SOLUTION
To address these challenges, we reimagined the bathroom layout and introduced clean-lined, space-conscious fixtures and finishes. A recessed wall niche was custom-built to add vertical storage without compromising floor space. Soft, muted hues were layered into the tilework and cabinetry to bring in color while maintaining a calm and cohesive palette. Streamlined lighting and a floating vanity helped create the illusion of more space, while improving functionality and visual flow.
IMPACT
The redesigned bathroom now feels significantly more open, functional, and visually uplifting. By integrating built-in storage and thoughtful material choices, the space supports the clients’ daily routines while offering a touch of personality. The result is a contemporary, compact bathroom that blends utility with style, and elevates the experience of an essential everyday space.
The shelving niche became a standout feature, doubling as practical storage and a design focal point. Every inch was thoughtfully considered, from the placement of lighting to the selection of hardware. The color palette—a blend of warm neutrals and soft greens—adds vibrancy without overwhelming the small space. This renovation proves that even modest bathrooms can be transformed into highly functional and inspiring environments with the right design approach.
